Brought from St. Louis to Baltimore, the former Browns became known as the Baltimore Orioles in 1953. The O’s have always had a strong fan base, even when they were not winning. The golden age of the Orioles during the mid 60’s featured players such as Frank and Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell, and Jim Palmer. Although the Oryuls have not always been the best of the best, Bawlamer fans will always love their O’s. The team was named after the state bird, the Baltimore Oriole. This bird is seen in spring throughout Maryland, and is named after Lord Baltimore because of the similarity of the Calvert coat of arms and the oriole’s beautiful plumage.
