Fort McHenry

Fort McHenry

This star shaped fort has been used in many wars, but is most known for its involvement in the war of 1812.  Francis Scott Key was watching the battle from the deck of a boat in the Chesapeake as the British

attacked Fort McHenry.  After witnessing this battle, and seeing that the flag on the fort still waved in the morning wind, Francis Scott Key penned what is now known as our national anthem.
